Al Glicine

Location

Located in downtown Bergamo on the first slopes of the upper town in the exclusive St. Lucia district, it is just a short distance walk from Donizetti theatre, the train station and the general hospital. The upper town and the Venetian walls can be reached by a pleasant 10 minutes’ walk along medieval streets and panoramic cobbled stairs. Alternatively, you can take the funicular that is just 5 minutes from home. Interesting tourist books as well as maps of the town and the province are available to guests, in addition to the landlady’s valuable suggestions.

Building

Stylish Art Nouveau detached house built in the 1930’s; the interior has been recently renovated, with Venetian plaster walls and a superb bathroom lined with Portugal pink marble. Free wi-fi connection for guests all over the house.

Rooms

The house has:

• a spacious double room with balcony overlooking the garden where you can enjoy breakfast, facing north-east, with television and wi-fi coverage;
• a room with two single beds and a third extra bed possibile, garden view, facing east, furnished with a large desk and a rich library with books in Italian and English for all ages, television and wi-fi coverage;
• breakfast room overlooking the garden, facing west.

Park/Garden

The little front garden has cypress trees, palms, oleanders and wisteria (whence the name Al glicine). A more spacious back garden makes a cozy space for you  to rest and enjoy the fresh air, for instance on the terrace under the vine pergola, where you can have snacks or breakfast sitting at the table with chairs.

How to get there

By car

Turn off the A4 motorway, Bergamo exit, and follow the signs to the hospital as far as the traffic lights under the railway bridge. Turn left and immediately right at next set of lights, continue straight on until the road starts to climb and becomes cobblestone. The building is on the left at number 32 and can be recognized by two tall cypresses.

By public transport

From the train station or Orio al Serio airport: take bus route 1 towards the upper town as far as Porta Nuova and then route 9A or 9B towards Marigolda or Pascoletto. Get off at bus stop no. 37 at the beginning of Via Statuto. The building is just one minute from the stop.

The landlady will be glad to pick you up from the train station or Orio al Serio air terminal.
